January Favourites | 2017

The first favourites post of 2017 - and January has been very good. I'm so happy with the start to this year, and I feel like I'm trying hard this year to make a difference. Here's what I've been loving in January...

Reasons to Stay Alive by Matt Haig

This. Book. If you've not read it, you need to. It's about Matt's history with mental illness and how he gets through it and manages it in his life. I read it and kept thinking 'yep, I know how that feels' or 'yep, that's exactly what it's like'. It's quite a positive book especially near the end, and some of the quotes I really like are:

How to stop time: kiss.
How to travel in time: read.
How to escape time: music.
How to feel time: write.
How to release time: breathe."

"I am you and you are me. We are alone, but not alone. We are trapped by time, but also infinite. Made of flesh, but also stars."

"Hate is a pointless emotion to have inside you. It is like eating a scorpion to punish it for stinging you."

"Don't worry about the time you lose to despair. The time you will have afterwards has just doubled its value."

Castle On The Hill - Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran's new music proves to be as good as he's ever been - I love this new song he's recently released. I love this one because it's sentimental and lots of it I can relate to. Apparently his new album is out in March, which I will be buying!

Tresemmé Instant Refresh Volumising Dry Shampoo

Everytime I use this, I remind myself how lovely the scent is! It's a little more expensive than the Batiste range of dry shampoos, but I really like it - you don't need to top up during the day, it makes your hair feel soft as if it really had been freshly washed, and particularly for someone with fine hair, it gives it a bit of volume which is always welcome...and it stays! I think I've been converted.

Becoming a gym bunny

That's right...I joined the gym! And yes, I know it's cliche and like everyone else, blah blah blah...but sod it; I want to look after myself and start making a difference to my life and now I have the motivation to do so, so I'm doing it. And I'm absolutely loving it!

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish

Bit late to the game on this one, but I am so glad I finally bought this. I got the starter kit from Boots for about £15 in the sale, and it honestly feels SO luxurious. Every time I use it, I feel pampered and like I'm really treating my skin; it leaves it feeling so soft and smooth, and it's cleared up most of any little spots I have going on. SO happy I bought this and I can see why everyone raves about it!

Pia gold earrings

My best friend Annie bought me these for Christmas - and they are perfect. I've probably worn these every single day since Christmas; I prefer studs to long earrings and rose gold is my absolute favourite. I'd been looking for some rose gold studs for a long time, and she got it so right! Pia is a shop in Oxford that sells some really beautiful jewellery for affordable prices, and they have shops across the country, so I'd recommend checking them out!

The 2017 Bucket List

With all the talk of beginnings and renewing promises and making resolutions, I thought about what I'd like to achieve this year. I don't know how good I am about making New Year's resolutions or completing my goals, but I feel I'm probably more motivated than ever, so I want to take advantage of this time!

A lot of people have spoken about how they don't see the point of waiting until January to change their lives - and I can understand that. But sometimes you need a bit of closure from the end of one year and the beginning of another to refresh, rethink, and set your goals, which is what I've done. Some of my goals are bigger than others, and some don't really have an endpoint. 2016 was good in some ways and bad in others, so I want 2017 to be 'my year' so to speak!

I've thought of 13 goals for the next year (and beyond)...

  1. Work on my fitness
  2. Work on managing my mental health
  3. Take up some new activities
  4. See a sunset in Mykonos
  5. Have a fabulous girls' holiday
  6. Read more
  7. Finish my Masters feeling happy and proud
  8. Treat myself for my birthday
  9. Stop allowing myself to be negative
  10. Learn to cook new recipes
  11. Get another piercing (or two or three)
  12. Finally learn how to do a winged eyeliner as I still can't do it
  13. Continue to never use the word 'bae'...EVER

Some of these I can happily say I've already started working on, and I'm really happy with my start to the year. Keeping everything up will be challenging, but I'm determined to do something different this year!

December Favourites | 2016

Happy New Year! I'm aware this post is halfway through January, but the last couple of weeks have been fairly manic! Here's what I was loving in December...

MAC lipstick in Kinda Sexy

(apologies for the shoddy nail polish I've still not taken off)
I've been wearing this shade nonstop. It's another nude, but slightly lighter and a bit more peachy coloured than your average. I really love it and think it's such a complementary colour - a good alternative to Velvet Teddy!

Tanya Burr Pretty Unstoppable palette

As proven by the state of the inside, I have used this palette well so far - particularly the highlighter and blush. The pigment of both holds well, and they're both really flattering. The highlighter blends really well and is the perfect shade, and the blush is a beautiful peachy pink colour. I've not used the eyeshadows tooooo much yet, but I reckon they'd be good for a smoky eye type look.

Lush Christmas collection

As always, Lush has done well with their festive collections. I'd been picking up bits and pieces from the store before Christmas time - like the Magic of Christmas Wand Bubble Bar - but my brother gave me this bath bomb set which I adore! I've got so many to use now that I've never used before and it's nice to have a little bit of christmas for longer!

I bought Paddy this film on DVD for Christmas, and we watched it a couple days after Boxing Day. We both really enjoyed it - it's the kind of film that will have you gripped and there's a plot twist I didn't see coming! Recommend giving it a watch if you like films with a bit of suspense.

Changed The Way You Kissed Me - Example

I rediscovered this song recently - I loooooved it back when it was released in 2011 (!) and found it again on a Spotify playlist. Still a tune.

Kate Spade 2017 diary

Paddy bought this for me for Christmas - which I was SO happy about as I've wanted this for such a long time! I try to keep a diary or planner every year, and Kate Spade is one of my favourite designers so putting them together = a very happy girl. One thing I really love about this one in particular is that before each month starts, there is a page with 'This is the month to...' and then gives examples like 'say yes' 'make snow angels' etc. It's so cute!

Camden | London

Another week gone, another weekend in London spent. This past weekend Paddy and I went on a little stroll (not really, we got the tube) to Camden, in North London. Specifically, I wanted to hunt down a bakery called Cookies and Scream (@cookiesandscreambakery) which specialises in vegan and gluten-free cookies, pies, doughnuts, brownies...the list goes on.

[I am not actually a vegan or even a vegetarian, but I am always up for trying new foods, and I'd heard rave reviews about this place]

It was a very blue day in London, which was nice as it'd previously been chucking it down. Whilst we were there, we had a quick wander around; we've been there before on a few day dates, and I quite like Camden. I feel my 13-year old self would appreciate it a lot more, but I love the chilled out-ness of the place, as well as all the art and music!

If you've not been, Camden is a pretty popular tourist destination in London; it's so different to what's on offer in central, yet it's so close. And Cookies and Scream isn't half bad, either....
